Dremel Tools Giveaway

If you’ve been following my blog for any time now, you know I love a good giveaway. Not only do I enjoy hosting exciting giveaways here on JSIM, I actually enter them from time to time. Recently, I entered one of my projects in the DremelWeekends sweepstakes. A technique I show using my little Dremel Stylus to craft a tool to create postage stamp perforations. And, to my delight, my entry won a Dremel Ultimate Tool Prize Pack! How awesome is that?!!

The prize included:

JSIM-Dremel-10

Dremel Saw-Max Tool Kit JSIM-Dremel-12

Dremel Trio Tool KitJSIM-Dremel-14 JSIM-Dremel-15

The day I opened my prize package I had a project ready to go. It’s so great to be able to do small projects myself rather than add to Mr. Wonderful’s already-full honey-do list, so I tackled this one myself with one of my new tools, the Dremel Saw-Max. The problem I had was that there was a big, ugly circuit breaker box framed on the wall of my freshly painted barn and it was protruding out the wall that I’d planned to put my bookcase against.JSIM-Dremel-01

I placed the bookcase in position up against the circuit box and reached back with a pencil and marked around it. (I’m not sure what the wording WEB PAGE D on the back of the bookshelf is all about, it came that way from the cabinetmaker.)JSIM-Dremel-02

I used the Saw-Max to cut along the lines.JSIM-Dremel-03 This is one powerful tool.JSIM-Dremel-04 I learned later from Jake, our barn studio carpenter, that the Multi-Max Oscillating Tool would have been a bit better for this particular project. I’ve got some learnin’ to do with all these new tools! But the section was cut, and the bookcase fit perfectly in place.JSIM-Dremel-05JSIM-Dremel-06

I covered the box with a stack of books and my husband was super proud of my accomplishment. And this, my friends, is only the beginning of the fun stuff to come using my winnings to craft and make and fix!JSIM-Dremel-07

Dremel is an amazing company! I love how the tools are compact but tough enough to work hard. I’m not sure I would have been so brave as to cut through a beautiful new bookshelf, but you did a fab job, and the books concealing the panel is a great idea too. NOT that women are the weaker sex, but smaller, lightweight tools (easier to handle) mean we can tackle our own projects!!!!

Thank you for the opportunity to win some very useful equipment.

  70. #70 - Toni Brooks says:

    Linda Greiss

  96. #96 - Betsy Rowan says:

When I was married I bought a Dremel for my husband , but he took it when we divorced . Have been wanting one ever since. A current project requires a Dremel and has my project on hold. Would love to win so I can finish this project!

  97. #97 - Valerie says:

WOW What a win! I would love to have all these. I would use the Dremel tools to fix up my parent’s house. My twin and I are almost 30 and still live at home. We do what we can to contribute to the household. I’ve got some tools, which I keep in my bedroom (if someone breaks in, my babies are safe with me!). There would be so many things I can do. Cut down the bamboo that’s ruining our fence line…rebuild the gate and fence so our neighbors can quit coming over for lost balls and letting our dogs out instead, helping my sister knock the wall down in her closet for better access….help my mom build shelves for her organized craft supplies so the bins don’t squish each other and break…after 15 years of living here, finally add baseboard to the entire house that the previous owners confusingly took out, and replace my front door in the little house. These tools would help me to improve our house and to make us that much happier to live here. The size would be so much easier for me to handle. I am the youngest and the only family member physically capable of doing a lot of the things around the house (I’ll throw mentally in there as well since abstract things can be extremely hard for us girls to follow). These tools make me excited about my home.

  98. #98 - Tamara says:

Ohh… tools husband and I would fight over! Him, cabinet making, me… jewelry work, me-thinks. Would LOVE to win this one, Kathe. And maybe I can get him to make me new studio furniture. I wanna have a pretty studio like you ‘when I grow up.’

  99. #100 - Ronda C. says:

Wow, I am a bit leery of tools, the whole danger of losing a finger thing, but I have been thinking about a Dremel for a while because of what you created and what others have done using a Dremel. I like that it does so much but doesn’t look as intimidating as my Husbands tools. Thanks for sharing.

  100. #101 - Lisa Twombly says:

I have been planning and studying gingerbread trim for my “mythical-maybe next year if we can swing it” front porch. I want something ornate and lacy and over the top and a Dremel would be AWESOME for those little tiny pieces. How exciting! Thanks for the giveaway!

  101. #102 - Gayle Mowris says:

The wonders of a Dremel!!! My son has one he uses to carve intricate design work on his wood sculptures and signs. We share, but the thought of having my own…well a girl can dream.
BTW lovely looking barn with a gorgeous plush couch to lounge and read. Nothing like my barn which is red, weathered and is home to 12 chickens, 2 cats and lot of crap, oh I mean treasures.

  102. #103 - Linda SARVER says:

    Love dremel’s!!!

  103. #104 - Erin S says:

Wow! What an AMAZING giveaway! I would loooove to win this so I can “encourage” my husband to become more handy when he sees me using the dremel! ;)

  104. I’m not sure exactly what I’d make, but I’m sure that my husband would have a few ideas! I’d probably start by labeling all of his tools so that if they happen to “disappear” on the job site, it would make an easy time of finding them again! (He’s an electrician.) We’re hoping to get a station set up in the garage for projects. It would be nice to know that there were some tools in that there that I could use too!

  105. #106 - Brittney Crabtree says:

We are in the middle of so many home reno projects, we could use these!

  106. #107 - Linda from Arizona says:

This would be so handy to have around the house so I wouldn’t have to wait for hubs to unlock his shop and then take over a project I started because he can “do it better than I can”.

  107. #108 - Bethany says:

This would be quite handy to have! It would surely cut down on the “Dad, can I borrow…?” and “Dad…how do I?….” comments :)

I love Dremel tools so much I have to “borrow” it from my husbands tool box on a regular basis…… He now hows to “borrow” from me! :0) This giveaway would help so I could give his back! LOL

  117. #118 - Diane says:

I never thought I would be drooling over tools!

  118. #119 - AmandaG says:

I’ve been looking at the Multi-Max for my husband’s birthday gift! I’ve heard such good things about it. We do a lot of DIY around the house, so we’d put it to use right away. I think it would’ve made installing our laminate wood floors much easier.

  119. #120 - Jenny says:

I’ve recently seen a project that uses the dremel to carve eggs and would love to try it!!! ~Jenny

  120. #121 - Tonya says:

Wow! Dremel goodies have been on my wishlist for quite a while now – hopefully I can go snag one soon because there are so many ways to use them!

  121. #122 - Lisa says:

Wow, quite a handy tool. I can think of endless projects, especially cutting all the holes in our house that we are wiring after being built (former Amish home). Both the studs and sheetrock need holes. I like it.
Then onto fun projects like the number sign you did.

  122. #123 - gatorgirl4325 says:

This is the one thing I stop and swoon over each time I’m in the orange big-box store.

  123. #124 - Elaine says:

Oh. My. I am the girl who has always wanted her own tools and work shop. Please! Framing would be first, I think.

  124. #125 - Dusty DeHaven says:

My dream goal is to learn how to use power tools that fit my hand. Dremel is perfect! I just got a new studio and girl, I could put these tools to good use! Dusty

  125. #126 - Dan Lyke says:

Decades ago I bought a name-brand but cheaper knock-off of the Dremel rotary tool, and it’s been there in my kit ever since, kind-of working, but reminding me every time I pull it out that cheaping out on tools is the wrong thing to do. Currently it’s got a dead-zone in the speed control, and the bearings have a bit of run-out, and…

I’m starting to do enough carving and detail work on the furniture and boxes and cabinetry that I build that t’s time to replace that sucker with the real thing.

  126. #127 - Kellye Kimball says:

My chicken coop needs some repairs and these tools would go a long way to helping with them! How exciting!!! :)

  127. #128 - Dana Glass says:

Oh, the possibilities!!! I can only imagine what I could do with this!

  128. #129 - Melissa M says:

I have few tools, but not a Dremel. I have always wanted one, but whenever I tuck a few scheckels away, something else always comes up. Birthdays, Christmas, a family member in need. If I ever got one, I would likely use it for fixing up all the little things that an old house like mine has that are not exactly in tip-top shape. Namely, a few bookcases that are built-in but need some work, and perhaps to make my plain Jane headboard look a little more ornate.

  129. #130 - Mary says:

Wow! All the Dremel products are great, but the oscillating tool kit is particularly wonderful — I love the one-handed use, since it can be hard to balance a project piece and work on it at the same time. And this tool kit has all the needed accessories to bring vintage furniture back to life! Thanks for the chance to win.

  130. #131 - janice says:

Oh my gosh – there are SO many things I could do with some new dremel tools. My basement is unfinished so there are lots of projects there and I am beginning to feel a pull to doing some decorative woodwork with some felled tree parts from my yard. So really, the possibilites are ENDLESS!

  131. #132 - Last Minute Lynn says:

What a terrific and handy tool! The bookcase is beautiful. I would love to be a handywoman with this versitle tool.

  132. #133 - Cynthia R says:

I have always wanted to start some small woodworking projects but alas, I am not married to a handyman with tools of his own (let alone skills)! So mant times see crafts and household projects on Pinterest I’d love to try! I’d start out small with up cycled wood wall decor!

  133. #134 - Tracy C. says:

I have no idea what I would do with the tool kit. But I can’t wait to find something wonderful to do with it. Thanks for the giveaway.

  134. #135 - Julia D. says:

Great job in tackling the circuit breaker box issue! What a gal….
Those dremel tools look mighty fine and such fun to use. I have tackled some issues with them and they are such a great tool. Thanks for such a great opportunity and looking forward to seeing your finished new shop here soon.

  135. #136 - Willa says:

Long time ago, a dear friend of mine gave my husband a very nice Dremel tool kit. I have lusted after it for more than a decade. While I am sure I would be allowed to use it, I have been loathe to touch it as I coveted it for my own. I knew that if I used it, it would go into MY toybox and no one else would be allowed to ever touch it.

I am pretty creative and know that I would find tons of projects and would put this to immediate and good use!

    Thanks.

  136. #137 - sarah H. says:

Ooh, what a great giveaway! I too love to do projects on my own and not have to wait until my busy husband has time to help me! :) This would be a great help for my to do list!

  137. #138 - Kelli Mulrooney says:

My daughter has a list of art projects that she wants me to help create and this is the perfect solution to make the process much easier.

  146. #147 - Anna says:

I’ve recently learned that the drill I had bought a year after I moved out is a girly weakling of a drill (but then I’ve also recently melted a ceramic drill bit by drilling holes in china). All that was to say that I don’t know what project I’d tackle with the dremel tool, but the pictures are giving me vague ideas of it’s possibilities. I’d love to try my hand on something new and see what comes out. (And go you for the lovely job with the bookcase!)

  147. #148 - Esperanza says:

I’d love to have these. My husband has a Dremel tool, and I always think it would be nice to have one of my own and not have to worry about having his tied up when he needs it.

  148. #149 - Margo K says:

I have been dying to own a Dremel. There are soooo many things you can do with them. Thanks for sharing such a generous giveaway!

  149. #150 - Cira says:

  150. #151 - Lee W says:

What a nice set of Dremel tools; thanks for the offer! I attended a workshop on cleaning our vintage (metal) buttons and a dremel tool was used– I would use this, and also the multi-max kit for remodeling in my craft corner! I love your bookshelves!

  151. #152 - Jeannie says:

What a great prize pack! We love our Dremel, and use it for everything. Dog and cat nail trims, drilling in spots where nothing else can reach, and we love it for removing the heads of rusted nails that cannot be removed otherwise. Our Dremel finally went to tool heaven, and we bought a competitive brand that was on sale. Bad decision. This one doesn’t hold a steady power, and will rev up on you mid project.

  152. #153 - Heidianna says:

Being able to do projects for myself is my number one reason for wanting a Dremel. I have so many ideas and projects to accomplish, but half of the time, I am waiting for help to use bigger tools that I am not as comfortable with (yet!). Thanks for the giveaway! Love your bookcase and how you worked around the box!

  153. #154 - Hilary Wright says:

Dremel tools are awesome! I have one I bought used to make reclaimed tin jewelry with. It has seen better days. If I won this one I think I could make my jewelry with much less effort.

If I won the other tool, hmmm, I’m sure I could figure out something to use it for. I’ve been wanting to refinish my kitchen table and chairs…Yes that’s what I would do with that tool!

  154. #155 - Michelle Bowers says:

I would love to use the Dremel Tools for crafts, DIY furniture projects, and to work on house repair projects due to my house flooding in Hurricane Isaac….I am still in the house repair mode- and it is 6 months post hurricane. My neighborhood still resembles a war zone. I have looked at Dremel rotary tools at the home store and they are on my wish list for now because I am still trying to replace belongings like shoes, and clothing lost during the hurricane. I would love to do some DIY furniture to replace furniture I lost in flood.

  155. #156 - Vicky says:

I have always wanted a Dremel set! There are so many different things I could use one for. I have some scrap granite that I have been saving to one day engrave, and I was told the rotary Dremel would work well, as long as I use the right attachment for it; this would be the first project I would attempt if I won!

  158. #159 - LisaT says:

  160. #161 - Amy N. says:

What would I use the Dremel for? What would I not use it for! I have so many ideas of crafts I’d like to make, but they require tools, of which I have none. Plus I might even let my boyfriend use it, and I know he really wants one.

  161. #162 - Alyssa says:

I don’t own a dremel, but my boyfriend does for work- I always steal it from him and it would be great to have my own :)

  162. #163 - katherine says:

  163. #164 - Jennie S says:

I’d LOVE to win the dremel kit for some fixes in my house, such as clearing out some grout to replace cracked tiles on my floor and to sand down my desk in my office so I can repaint it. I hope I win and thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  164. #165 - sarajane says:

I totally agree with you- it’s so satisfying to do somethings yourself, rather than wait for it to get crossed off the “Honey-Do” list. I love my Dremel Rotary tool and Drill press for it – would love to add some other Dremels to my arsenal. Can’t wait for the barn unveiling!

I’d love to win so I can have one that works more than not. I was given a non-dremel & it will stop working right in the middle of doing something. So, a day project is more like a 2 or 3 day one. Love the stripes on the backerboard of the bookcase.

  176. #177 - Stacy P says:

I’d love to have one of these. I’d actually be able to do a few of the projects that I have in mind without having to borrow the tools or have my uncle help me (he has the tools). I can just picture all of the stuff I would make.

  177. #178 - Stephan Edel says:

My Dremel (an old corded rotary tool) recently gave up the ghost so I was really excited to see your post. I have long envied the larger Dremel tools and would love to have them for some larger projects around the house as well as my crafting. I used my old one mostly for small shaping and cutting on modelling projects and detail sanding and shaping for some furniture restoration. My wife and I just took on the project of fixing up my mother’s house and these tools would be really helpful. Thanks for the great site.

  178. #179 - Nicole H. says:

Wow- this would make me want to attempt even more projects! How was cutting with the saw? Can you go really straight?

  179. #180 - Madeleine says:

I love to play with metals and other odd pieces in mixed media and I think a dremel would be helpful in cutting and sanding pieces. Great giveaway btw.

  193. #193 - Peggy says:

  204. #204 - Janet Robinson says:

Love, love, love my Dremel! Of course, it’s ancient and the rechargeable battery is cranky, so I have had a replacement on my wish list for the past year. I keep hoping I’ll stumble on a decent gently used one at a garage or estate sale. In the past, I have tried to make my simple rotary help me with projects far beyond what it’s meant to do. It’s my number one go-to tool when framing artwork. I’ve even tried to clean vintage jewelry with it. Would love the opportunity to see what the new ones can do. Thank you for making this drawing possible! Good luck to everyone.

Well, I’ve got an idea of taking my entry-way cabinet and cutting a nice hole in the side to attach a cat door. Why? I’m going to put the kitty litter box inside. It might sound odd to have cat litter inside of a piece of furniture by the front entrance, but I don’t want it in my bathroom or kitchen, and this is the smartest place for us. Now, if I could just get to it!

  207. #207 - Hoanyen Vo says:

Thanks for the chance to possibly own them, and thanks even more for your continuing inspiration!

    Your bookcases look great!

  215. #215 - Jen B says:

Super cool! I use my Dremel for everything from crafting to home repair to puppy pedicure. I use the tiny drill bits often in crafting and when pre-drilling small items to add screws. I use the sanding and polishing attachments for so many things! I also use the wire brush attachments to clean up rust from tools that I may have left outside. The multi-max oscillating tool would be such an awesome addition to my toolbox!

  226. #227 - Ali B. says:

We have a Dremel Multi-Max tool and I’ve only used it twice (once to cut wood and once to cut drywall, but I recently picked up a blade for metal. I would LOVE to get my hands on that rotary tool though. Looks super handy! I do a lot of upcycling of vintage gizmos (most recently an antique radio) and Dremel tools are great for getting into all the inevitably tight spaces I find myself in. So thanks for the opportunity to win one!

  227. #228 - Cynthia Avalos says:

I would love to own one of these!

  228. #229 - Sharon Kissel says:

I have a little corded Dremel to help when I am carving soapstone figurines or making jewelry. I’d love to use a newer model.

  229. #230 - Vicki says:

Oh, Dremel! How I would love to have Dremel tools of my own!

We recently inherited a small, older rotary Dremel kit from my husband’s brother, (I have already worn out some of the small attachments, so need to go to HD to replace them), and I would love to have the opportunity to discover how much more I am capable of with some of the other, larger Dremel tools.

I have lots of little projects I work on around the house, and the Dremel comes in handy, when I can get my hands on it, but when my husband has it at work in his trailer (he works as a contractor), I can’t get at it – I’d love to have my own. Whether I’m wiring a lamp or making jewelry or cleaning small items, the Dremel always makes the job easier, and it is wonderful that there is such a variety of attachments to allow me to accomplish such a varied assortment of projects.

(I think perhaps Dremel should have child oriented Dremel tools used in grade schools to get girls (along with boys, of course!) accustomed to the use of power tools – it is time for us to join in on all the fun the guys have had all this time with their tools! If you wonder why Apple products are so ubiquitous in today’s world, remember that Apple put their products in classrooms around the country, and that the children who grew up using Apple products, want to use them as adults.)

I can understand why your husband was so proud of you for solving your problem with the electrical box, your Dremel power tools make you just a bit more self sufficient, and free him to help you with other things.

I just discovered your blog today, through a Pinterest reference to your house chandelier, and am bookmarking you, I’ll be back to see what else you are up to, often!

    Thank you! Vicki Carroll

Ooooo congrats on the win, project, and all the future projects you will be able to do with these new toys, er, I mean, tools

That cordless Drexel would be FAB for a dimensional mural project I am working on for my church.

I am drooling over that Trio Tool. I have had to use an old Dremel to cut shapes from plywood for this project because I don’t have a good jigsaw. That one has roused my interest.

Thanks for posting and sharing this opportunity to join in your excitement.

I love your blog Cathe, you have lots of inspiring projects!

When I was in architecture school, I loved hanging out in the woodshop. It was wonderful to be able to design something and then have the tools readily available to make that design.

I often long for those days at the woodshop. Having a dremel would be like having a mini woodshop at my disposal!

  258. #259 - CindyB says:

Not only do I hate to bother my hubby with my craft projects, he is in the early stages of dementia and doing projects for me can sometimes be overwhelming for him. A very generous giveaway for you and your readers!

    Oooh power tools…..The Final Frontier!

  283. #285 - Amy says:

I first started dreaming about getting a Dremel tool when I heard they make carving those fake pumpkins so much easier. Alas, I couldn’t afford one so I had to make do with a kitchen knife. (and a pretty sad looking carved pumpkin) Now, I have seen how many uses a Dremel tool has and I can’t believe I have been without one for so long!!! Fingers crossed!!!

  284. #286 - Suzy Girl says:

Oh how I could use the Dremel! My husband swears by it, but I need my own. ha ha. I have so many projects I could use it on right now. Thanks for the opportunity.

  285. I love this giveaway! I am always doing things around the house and never have the right tool. The wind here in Missouri is always taking out fence boards and snapping them. I have replaced them but can never dog ear them on the top because I don’t have the tools. Crossing my fingers!

    Jen

A Dremel would be a great addition to our tool inventory! Every time I need one I have to borrow one from my brother!! Thanks for the giveaway!

    Great post!

  295. #297 - Lynn Richards says:

I used the Drexel that was my father’s for a long time to alter dominoes. I have somehow lost it and have been adrift without it. So many projects to use it for: distressing wood frames, sanding down small spots in soldering, household things as well!
    Lynn

  296. #299 - Beverly Hanapole says:

  308. #311 - Kathe says:

Like you, I’d like to be able to do some things myself using tools that don’t weigh 50 pounds each. Smaller tools are less intimidating and actually seem much more efficient for the “big tool” kind of work they are able to perform. Thanks for the chance to win!!

  309. #312 - Karen E says:

I say, “Girl Power!” …never too late to learn how to use these tools. Projects are brewing!

  312. #315 - Carla says:

I would love a Dremel! I know I’d be sharing it with my boys who are in 4-H and are always making things. Last summer we were trying to make ‘dragonflies’ to hang on a tree and son #2 commented that we didn’t have the right tools to get the job done right. Congrats on your award – and for sharing with your readers!

I learned to use power tools in high school shop class (which I had to fight hard to get in to, way back in the 70′s) and am always so proud of myself when I am able to successfully use them. I think every girl should feel comfortable using power tools – girl power!

  315. #318 - Kempton Walker says:

I would love to have my own Dremel Set! IT’S A GIRL THING. You see, I’ve borrowed my Mother’s a few times. And recently, my daughter who just turned twenty-one, called and asked to borrow mine. I had to explain that it was Grandma’s and that she’d have to get it from her. Creative people need a Dremel. And Grandma isn’t always in the mood to share!

  322. #325 - Four dogs and one quilter says:

  340. #343 - Nan Jacobson says:

I am a woman who loves tools and openly admit it. I have a band saw, drill, palm and belt sander and many small hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, vice, etc. ) As a single Mom I learned to fix things around the house, repurpose/upcycle furniture, and make gifts for every occasion. Now that my sons are grown and on their own I am reinventing myself and have discovered new hobbies. A few years ago I began a small jewelry business upcycling vintage jewelry and participating in juried craft shows. Designing and creating my own unique jewelry displays is next on my list. A Dremel would be a wonderful addition to my new business. I firmly believe that learning to use tools gives women a sense of power and control that only makes us stronger. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win such a wonderful tool. The project possibilities are endless.

  341. #344 - Petrina says:

whoa. Love the book shelves. Where were all those books hiding before you had all this shelf space for them? That’s what I’d like to know. ha!

And come on baby, gimme some dremel!!

  342. #345 - Sharrieboberry says:

I bought my mom a Dremel and accessories for Christmas. But I do not have one!

I always thought one would come in handy for cutting, sanding, and grinding for those smaller jobs (and repair jobs) that I want done now but do not want to use a larger tool for.

    Very cool!

  343. #346 - Jason says:

I’d like to win a Dremel so I can give it to my wife and she can make, fix, and craft to her heart’s content. And maybe she’ll let me use it every once in a while.

The bookcase looks fantastic! i love all of the color that the books bring. we have two pretty big bookcases that are black but i think i like the white color better. there are a lot of projects that i can think of that my husband (and me!) would love to have this dremel for.

    Thanks for the chance!

I use my Dremel rotary tool everyday and I would love a new one! The one I have is still going strong so I’ll give that to my daughter if I win! The the sander bit is perfect for sanding off stilt marks on the bottom of my pottery. I use a diamond bit to drill holes in sea glass & old pottery chards for jewelry. Work and play wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without Dremel.

Thank you so much for making such a fine dependable product!

  353. #356 - Jacque says:

I love Dremel tools! Unfortunately, we had a burglary a few months ago and my Dremel tools were stolen (along with all of my husband’s power tools, artwork, and more) and so far I have not been able to afford replacements. No way can I use a regular router and even the sanding was easier than using a palm sander. I have dreams of more shelves and for making lots of gifts for family and friends so it sure would be wonderful to win this!!! Crossing my fingers and dancing an Irish jig for some good ol’ luck of the Irish. Thanks for this giveaway.

I love to repurpose things and I can see this tool useful for grinding nails off of vintage molding, cleaning the chalk out of an old window, sanding hard to reach places on a piece of antique furniture and many, many more uses.

  394. Cathe!!! The bookcases are so awesome and you used these wonderful tools to totally solve your problem. I’d love a chance to win some of these goodies:)
