Following the build-up to the Art Is…You! art retreat being held here in Petaluma, California has been pretty exciting. A friend and I went to the trunk show of last year’s event and I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of this fantastic event. It all worked out and as you may have read in previous posts, I’ll be holding a workshop there in September. Along with other faculty, I was sent a blank paper mache mask and asked to get creative with it. The instructors’s masks will each be auctioned off to benefit the Art Is…You! scholarship program. And since on occasion I have an affinity for a less-than-delicate/feminine-style of art, here’s what I came up with.
Art Is…Masculine!
In lucid dreams little men take over
Once I close my eyes and begin to create
Barbershop-cigar-box-watchmaker artwork
As a mustache grows upon my face.
Welcome to the show!
It’s incredible! Absolutely brilliant! Great job!
You are truly a creative genius,,,,,,,,, I think I get a tiny bit more creative just when you drive by my house !!!!!
Do your kids do points for school ??? I need to find a school to give points to ,,,,,,email me, when you have a moment, you sound super duper busy though
I love that mask. Its very well designed.
All I can say is…WOW!

He looks like a Maya king to me. Love the mustache! What awonderful idea to send a blank mask to all the instructors. It’s always amazing to see what people come up with from the same starting point.
Awesome creation! I love the trim pieces as a mustache!

Awesome, Cathe. You see things in such a way, re-purposing them with such wonderful imagination.
p.s. what are neg-o-numbers?
Other than what is pictured on the envelope, I have no idea!! This is the only package I’ve ever seen, no doubt found in the bottom of a box of junk I picked up somewhere. Had no idea what to do with them until now….perfect for eyelashes!
I have attended Art is You in CT since year one, and it is an incredible experience: a real family of crazy people , and the yearly retreat is more of a family reunion than commercial venture. I know you will have a great time, and I hope you will ask to be part of the CT retreat at some point.
Extremely Fabulous! It’s like music made on a face with total artistic creation. Way to go……..
Oh, I love it! what a super great idea!
Love the composition and colors of this. Really beautiful work.
WOW, WOW, WOW!! What a treat to see such creativity! Love your blog. Love your generous sharing. You are Top O’ the Trees!

Wow! You did a wonderful job with your mask. It’s so creative with all of the objects that you found and used. I would have never thought to do anything like this. I just love what you did with the top of your mask.
Everything on it looks so good!!!
