Masculine Merchandising Objet d’Art: Bass Pro Shops

Recovering from a nasty flu that has swept through our entire family, I’m still low on craft energy but wanted to make the most of my couch time and post a photo journal of sorts. For the second year, my family and I traveled to Manteca, California to spend a couple of days at Bass Pro Shops during my birthday. Last Christmas Eve was no exception and with camera in hand I once again went about the store shooting merchandising vignettes and beautiful displays that spoke to me. I hope you’ll find a few of them Pinworthy as inspiration for your campy projects. Enjoy!

    oh yes i did :)

  2. I too have always loved the look of their displays. My most favorite would have to be the General Store. That would be my dream.

Love how masculine your choices of photos are.

What a neat shop! Are the prices good there?!

Love it! Those red and white bobbers remind me of my grandpa + I’m pretty sure he had a thermos in that same yellow plaid. Hope you’re feeling better soon, Cathe!

I live just one town over, in Tracy. I’d kill for that first thing, the rotating drawer unit. There was one at an antique store near here, old green paint, for $400. Sure would love to have their display budget. Very cool store.

Wow! I live in Manteca and have been to Bass Pro Shops several times but have never noticed the awesome displays that you showed here. I guess I’m going to have to go back with my eyes open a little wider! Thanks!

That first cabinet with all the drawers is to die for! Since half of my home is lodge style, I have a “reel” appreciation for this…yes, pun intended.

I think we need to travel down that way, just to see the displays! Awesome! Thanks for the heads up! Hope you are feeling better!

  9. My teenage son loves Bass Pro Shop. I really don’t mind taking him because I enjoy the wonderful displays. I always tell him that when he grows up and manages a Bass Pro he has to hire me to do their shopping and decorating.

Oh man! (no pun intended)…. I thought I was the only one that went around the Bass Pro in Manteca and snapped photos! I haven’t been there in a few months, looks like it’s time to check it out again :)

oh yeah, baby! LOVE all this campy, man-stuff! I went to their flagship store in Springfield, Mo and thought I’d died and gone to heaven. It’s huge and beyond description. Wonderful displays.

The big wall with all the compartments?–awesome! And I want that coat-rack made from old skis. Great post!

There is a hardware store in Old Forge, NY, in the Adirondacks that is a treasure trove of masculine merchandizing. it has something for everyone though. I could walk through the aisles forever and never be bored.

great stuff – thanks for sharing

That top set of drawers is gorgeous – showed it to my Wookie and asked if he could make me a set, he agreed (adding it to the bottom of a long list) and said that it was too gorgeous to be in a workshop – he doesn’t say that about much.

Love your photos!! We have a Bass Pro Shop near me and always love looking at their displays and wishing I could find half of the vintage/antique things they display for my antique collection. Thanks for sharing and yes I did pin a few of your pics.
    Hugs,
    Linda

Hope you and the family are back to 100% healthy and rested soon.
What an inspiration from those displays! Now I want to take my parents’ Coleman lantern-just like the Bass one, great grandparents picnic basket, vintage garage sale Penn reel, friend’s boyhood creel and my Japanese glass float collection and do an arrangement. You never cease to open my mind to creative ideas Cathe.

The nearest bass pro sho is 3 hours west! I have spent several hours there with DH. Hmmm don’t think I saw anything this neat! Great displays love the storage units.

I HAVE that revolving drawer piece! It belonged to my grandfather, and he got it from a hardware store. It was used for all different sizes nuts, bolts, etc. I love it!
I visited my first Bass Pro Shop last summer in Columbia, MO. I was impressed, but after seeing your photos, it’s clear I didn’t really “see” all there was to see. Must make a return trip!

Who knew I should have made this trip with my dad all those times he went!

I feel equally inspired at BPS. People think I (a vegetarian who hates guns) am nuts, but I always leave there feeling inspired and refreshed!
