Have you ever visited the Felt & Wire website? Did you know they also have a shop? If you love paper crafts, stationery, card making or crafting in general, inspiration and shopping- you’re going to love both!
Recently I was sent an incredible array of colorful envelopes in many sizes and finishes from Mohawk Paper, the company behind Felt & Wire. As an old-skool print designer, I go waaay back with Mohawk. I’ve spec’d many a project on their papers. But now they actually sell their envelopes in smaller packages of 10 for the crafter!
So, I thought I’d show you one fun idea for utilizing both A2 and A8 size envelopes. I chose the colors Coco, Ultra Fuchia, Orange and Sun Yellow to create a simple personalized stationery set.
Using art modified from a page of printers cuts found in one of my rare/early 20th century books, (FREE for you below,) I printed the images to paper to create envelope insert liners. I trimmed them to fit and slid them into the bright colored envelopes, attaching with a few light dabs of glue. When making your inserts, be sure they don’t end up covering the gummed strip section of the flap.
I printed out note sheet designs, 2-up on letter-size paper to coordinate with the envelopes and inserts with my name added to each.
I glued the flap of one A8 envelope to the lower bottom of another to create a pocket folder.
I slid the envelopes and note sheets into the pockets and folded the flap over the sheets.
Folding it in two, I added a label to the front. You can tie a bow or string to finish, add a sticker as a seal closure, or cut a decorative strip of paper to use as a cigar band wrap.
That’s all there is to a simple but personal letter writing portfolio/stationery set. Create several, they make the nicest birthday gifts and shower favors.
Here is a free PDF digital download of clip art for you to use on this or any other projects.

It’s great that Mohawk is supporting the Arbor Day Foundation!
Lovely things at all sites. I so appreciate the distinction between craft (the verb and the noun) and crafts (the sparkly yarn toilet-paper cover), and am relieved and delighted anytime I see things that remind me there IS a difference.

Thank you so much for this give away, the art is so beautiful. I am a collector of quills and lovely pins. I practice the fading art of letter writing. Thank you for helping keep it alive.

I love sending mail (mostly because I like receiving it, and figure it’s karma). Felt and Wire has some awesome stuff for the dying art of the letter.

So great that they have sustainable papers, too!

Wow,if I won, I could have so much fun just playing. I love that the Mohawk site has this thing where you can search based on needs. It really cuts down the extra time. The F&W site I could just spent HOURS on and the Felt & Wire shop is just bad for my pocket book!!!!

Would love a set of envelopes, thank you! would also love to know what printer you use … that much black ink would make my printer cry. Thanks!
Love their latest blog post on the relationship between chocolate and paper. Who would’ve thunk?
Great stuff….I am such a paper hoarder!
It’s always good to stroll through new websites–thanks for encouraging us to head over there. I’m waiting for the Apple a Day calendar to come back in–perfect for my husband who eats an Apple a Day (and sometimes leaves his stickers on the kitchen counter–this would corall them all, nicely). I’ve got Matthew Carter’s talk up on the web, ready to listen to it after I type this. And the Mohawk Store is a lovely online version of my local Kelly Paper–where I tend to buy mostly Mohawk papers (but didn’t know it!). Very informative–esp. loved the parent sheet prices.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you, too, Cathe! And thanks for our latest crafty project. I appreciate all your sharing of your talents–a good example for me to follow.
Ahhhhhh……notecards, paper, envelopes…..I am home!
AHA ! you just gave me a super idea for invitations to AIGA and CADC events / take a flap from some of the left over posters and glue it to the flap of the envelope !!! I love this idea
These are great Cathe – feeling the stationery love! Fine paper elevates these sorts of projects.
Felt & Wire is fantastic, makes me want a letterpress of my own. Even though (or maybe because) we just had Christmas I love the Santa tags by DeFrance Printing. The colours and design are so fresh and clean – classic. I love the idea of buying the envelopes in small lots from Mohawk – I used to have a source and miss it. Lots of love to share on Valentine’s Day!
Thanks for sharing yet another great collection of graphics with us. I appreciate how much time you spend scanning and cleaning up the files.
And, thanks to you and Mohawk for a chance to win!
Everything is just so…beautiful!
oh how i love the gorgeous selection! thank you for sharing! xo
I can never resist envelopes. Thanks for more great ideas and wonderful clip art.
Love your talent! Thanks for sharing, and for sending me to Felt & Wire. Where have they been all my life?
Thanks Cathe, I hope I win!!!
I love everything paper and envelopes etc- this is a great shop to discover and I hope it’s my lucky day!
I have a friend that is about to have a baby- how fun would personalized thank you stationery be? Lots! I love the rich colors of the paper and envelopes.
Hi there,
I believe in sharing my opinions openly. Sometimes companies are unaware of the customer experience. Thanks for the opportunity to play.
Loved this project. I did visit the site and have a suggestion for Mohawk Papers… as a non-professional consumer, looking thru their site wasn’t as smooth as I expected. I would have preferred to have seen projects and ideas right away, so as to have a general idea of potential projects using their materials. I know that the choices are endless, but it would have made it a more welcoming experience and I would have lingered on their site longer. That’s my two cents.
