Making Changes: Me & My Blog

It’s still me.

I’m hoping you won’t comment that you like the blonde better, there’s nothing I can do about it for at least 6 months or more without risking baldness. We’ll all get used to it, you’ll see. (What? I look happier as a blonde? That photo was taken on my birthday, everyone’s happier on their birthday!) And might I mention, I’m a natural brunette. Did I have you fooled?

Uh, huh. I’m wearing specs full-time now. The miracle of Lasik eye surgery only lasts so long. Mine gave me 10 fantastic blur free years. Now, it’s time to pay the piper.

And, yes, my blog is getting a bit of a makeover as well, nothing as drastic though, just some rearranging.

What changes have you made lately?

Errrmm, how come you look younger now, lol? Really, you look like a University student in the second photo! Can't be bad, lol. The glasses suit you.

  2. #2 - Michele says:

Love either one…and love the glasses!

    Hugz,
    Michele

  3. #3 - Barbara Bechtel says:

I like the brown much better. Of course, I'm biased because I'm a brunette myself and I'm all militant about all the fake blondies out there. Go with what the good lord gave you! Except for that gray hare…and we all know he's hopping after all of us…. ;)

  4. #4 - Hannah says:

    I adore you in glasses.

  5. #5 - *The Beautiful Life* says:

I ditched the bleach about a year ago now and I love it! Hair is MUCH healthier looking and without question, everyone likes my natural color better… hmmm… makes me wonder why I wasted all that money all those years on bleach! ;)

Enjoy it!! You look MAHVELOUS! ;)

    Ruth

  6. #6 - Centsational Girl says:

You look fabulous dahhhhling. When are we having coffee ? Cause that's NOT something I'm willing to change. :-)

  7. #7 - Nancy says:

you look like a young Sally Field…like when she was in "The Flying Nun". Ok totally dating myself…

  8. #8 - Dandy says:

I love the dark hair! I like glasses, I think they are stylish.

Changes? I'm re-organizing my apartment one room at a time. Right now I'm wishing I weren't a renter so that I could paint.

And now I want a new hair style.

  9. #9 - StarvnRtist says:

it only lasts for 1o yrs??? so they tell you that when you have it done?

    you look great!

I put a red halo in my hair, it isnt near as red as I want it, Hmph. But I will just have to deal for a bit.

  10. #10 - Roberta says:

Cathy…you are too hard on yourself…like your natural look much better. You remind me of "Sally Fields"…very cute! btw…the roots were giving you away as a blonde…lol
as far as the specs…I view mine as a fashion accessory…have a bunch of readers ALL over the house. I wear bifocals when I'm driving or watching TV…but for the most part, I find I'm happier when everything in the background is blurry to me…lol…less distractions if you know what I mean. Have a great weekend!

  11. #11 - La Table De Nana says:

Honestly? You are perfect both ways:)
I am a big fan of good glasses.. those? Are great!(I just got new ones:)

  12. #12 - foobella says:

You're beautiful as a blonde as well as a brunette. I think you need another picture, though, with that same smile.

When I want someone to give me a REAL smile in a picture, I usually just make a funny face from behing the camera to make them laugh. Those are the best smiles and it works every time.

  13. #13 - foobella says:

oh, but I'm not feeling the double columns on the right. That's my least favorite layout of any blog that I visit. Not that you were taking a poll on the subject or anything. ;)

  14. #14 - Diane @ InMyOwnStyle says:

I like your natural color, you look very modern and chic. I bet you feel great too. I will be needing glasses soon myself. I just keep putting it off. Change is a good thing. We have to tweak ourselves once and awhile to stay fresh. We can't get stuck in a style that worked for us in the past. It will just date us, even if it feels comfortable.

  16. #16 - Sebby says:

I think you look great! Lasik only last so long, really? I was thinking about it, can you have it redone once it wears off? I'm so curious now!! Gotta go do some research!!
    And, I love your glasses!

  17. #17 - Judy says:

You are a lovely lady no matter your hair color!

  18. #18 - Donna says:

Wow, what a difference! I thought the brunette was your sister, LOL!

  19. #19 - Elaine A says:

    Hi Cathe -

We all need a change once in a while. Before you were in a Blonde mood and that was flattering on you. Now you are back to your natural self, and that is also becoming on you. The bottom line, you are still the same "you" underneath it all – LOL!

  20. #20 - plo says:

Change is good! I just changed my hair color today, I can't stand being the same all the time! My blog has been the same forever…maybe it is time to make a change myself, besides my hair that is. You look fab, and I LOVE your glasses!

  21. #21 - Karen- The Graphics Fairy says:

I agree with Lululiz, you look younger! Oddly enough I was at the salon this morning and went a little blonder. I guess we were both ready for a little change!

  22. #22 - Ann says:

    I think it looks fabulous!

  23. #23 - Whitney @ Whisker Graphics says:

You look great both ways! Honest.

It's amazing how much a change in hair color and adding glasses can alter one's appearance. You could go into the Witness Protection Program or walk right past me on the street and I wouldn't recognize you.

Your blog is looking pretty snappy too!

  24. #24 - sandra says:

    Lucky You!
You look fantastic as a blonde AND as a brunette!

  25. #25 - kate says:

I always pictured you with dark locks and was surprised when I realized you were blond… love the new look(s)

  26. #26 - The Dragonfly says:

You're totally channelling a young Sally Fields! SO cute and spunky. Love it. Love changes.

  31. #31 - Teresa says:

    You are adorable!!
    Wow!
Just think how much money you will save not having to fork out all that doe to stay blonde!
I don't even want to calculate how much money I have spent over the last 20 years to stay blonde!!
    Good for you…going natural!
    Looks divine!
    And I adore glasses!!!!
    xxooxx

  32. #32 - Suzy says:

Looks like some are having the same thoughts…Sally Fields of course! And her husband (Brothers and Sisters) owned a vineyard and your husband makes wine. How about that big house with a pool…do you have that in common too?
Everybody needs a change sometime, I go brunette in the winter months also.

  33. #33 - Anonymous says:

OMG–I thought you were showing a photo of yourself from college (dark hair)! You look great. You know that saying from Marilyn Monroe "Men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses"? Well, as a glasses wearer, who can't have Lasik, let it be said, "Men pat the a–es of women wearing glasses." I have five pairs of glasses (do you only have one pair of shoes…no. So why only one pair of glasses. You look great!
    Best,
    Carol

  34. #34 - myletterstoemily says:

    yes, you totally got me!

  35. #35 - *Ulrike* says:

Glasses are good. I wear contact when out and about, and glasses at home or for quick out and abouts! Didn't realize that surgery only last for a short while.

  36. #36 - Sherry Goodloe says:

OMG you DO look like a young Sally Fields! Well, I'm partial to brunettes as well . . . I dyed my hair blonde when I was 18 or 19 years old in college. Don't ask me WHY, but I did. Ooooh, the things I did when I was so much younger LOL!

  37. #37 - Apron Thrift Girl says:

Okay so you already know that I think you look fabulous but I have to say it again, years younger, more authentic to your gorgeous complexion and much lighter as if the blond was weighing you down. I love your new look and can't wait to see you in person.

  38. #38 - Pfeiffer Photos says:

Ah, hair is hair. I got my red frosted with blonde a few months ago and now I'm getting used to it and want to try something else. New glasses are always a good change–I need those, too. It's what's inside that counts–I know you mom probably told you that, cuz all mom's do. ;0)

The blog looks very different but it's clean and easy to find stuff so there you have it.

    Have a good weekend!

  39. #39 - Jen says:

I think it looks great! I went brunette last fall after being blonde for years–if nothing else, it's SO much less maintenance! Which is always a good thing. Regardless, a change once in awhile is a good thing! Work it, girl!

  40. #40 - Kris says:

Cathe! I LOVE the new look! You look fabulous. Truly. :)

  41. #41 - Sheilagh (60 x60) says:

You Lucky Girl!! You look Fabulous both ways:o) I like the new image, your spec's are Great.

  42. #42 - My name is PJ. says:

You could shave your head and draw a sharpie mustache on yourself and you'd still be youthful, sparkly and Rock Star cool!

I like your look. I liked it before. I lovvvvvvvve your glasses.

Have you ever gone shorter with your hair…like a chin length bob? You'd look cute like that too.

Experiment. I can't wait to see what you do to your blog…..

  43. #43 - TidyMom says:

    you know I love it!!

Love the blog changes too – I'm wanting to do some of the same things!!

Oops…I misspelled a word and deleted my first post. I shall try again, with no misspellings?!

Sadly, my lasik is going downhill, too…but it's been a good run! (Those birthdays have a way of making themselves known!) I just ordered myself a very sporty pair of transitions sunglasses–with bifocals. Just because our eyeballs may be getting old doesn't mean our minds are! Your glasses look great on you!

  45. #45 - Jennifer says:

I love it! You look like YOU! You look younger and so skinny! Changes I've made? I gave up watching Desperate Housewives.

  46. #46 - Denise Tedeschi Illustration says:

I think I know a little about where you are, since you look allot like me now, and same glasses pretty much. I cut my hair short and perky (sassy, not mannish) and felt much younger. Recently I had started to grow it out to mid length, but found it was again, too much work to keep full looking. So I cut it short again, and feel it took years off my age.
It would help to get a more current style shaping for your hair. No matter what length, there's a more contemporary style for it. It will make you look and feel younger. It's hard adjusting to our facial and body changes as they age. We just need to change the look sometimes to make us feel refreshed. Here's just one lil link to many great styles. I'd pick something with a more full bang, yet feathering it more…
http://short-hairstyles-pictures.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html You have a soft, friendly look and personality already. I'm just sharing my own experiences with my 'look'.

  47. #47 - mary beth says:

Looking pretty before and looking pretty after! It must be that time of year because I am in the mood for a serious cut and new glasses!

  48. #48 - T.Allen-Mercado says:

It must be the season…I've started running again and have donated all of my "Goodyear fashions" also known as housewife couture. I had convinced myself that I was no longer in NYC and would therefore let go of my pretentious fashion sense, "As if"…so now I'm back! You look lovely, enjoy yourself, change is good. That's my motto this week, but it is subject to change without notice or warning.

  49. #49 - Alessia says:

I love to follow you and your blog since a few weeks now and I think you´re very creative!

Thanks for your inspirations and I think to wear classes isn´t as bad than to be blind or to be handicappted

I am wearing glasses since my whole live :

    You look Mahvelous!

You've got the "chiaroscuro" thang goin' on now and you match your cool black and white blog graphics!

Love the specs, too. I have a similar pair and my kids call them my Clark Kent glasses.

    Love your blog.

    Genevieve

BTW – Didya see your town in Country Living? Cute place! Was that your cool Butter and Egg poster?

  53. #53 - Lisa says:

Re the Lasik thing. I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I, too, had it done 10 years ago and they were a great 10 years. I'm back to wearing glasses too. Oh well. Love the Blog by the way.

  54. #54 - deb did it says:

nothing like a little Hair Therapy! I just cut 9 inches off my hair!! Now it's all springy and bouncy!! I like your change!!

  55. #55 - Sheila says:

You are so cute that it really doesn't matter what color your hair is! I read your blog all the time and think you are very talented and very clever. Thanks for posting all the printables for us.

  56. #56 - Jill says:

You look fabulous! I love the color and the glasses.

  57. #57 - Sooz says:

i love the brown hair.. we have more fun anyway and people don't think we're morons. :)

  58. #58 - Kelly says:

I had Lasik 10 years ago and now I think I need glasses also. I wonder if this is the norm.

  59. #59 - Heather Carson says:

Love the change! You are amazing no matter what color your hair is :)

  60. #60 - Shelly Atkinson says:

I like you as a brunette better! Sorry…and your glasses are great!

I had lasik surgery about 8 to 10 years ago….had both eyes redone…and now need one done again…..mine come with a lifetime guarantee….have you ever considered having them redone?

    Thanks for sharing!

  61. #61 - Cathe Holden says:

Yes, Shelly, I did consider having my Lasik redone, that is until I heard of the dangers. Please be sure you look into that!

  62. #62 - Miriam at Made Right Guide says:

Good for you for trying it out!

I went from blond to brunet for a while and I really liked it. I did find that people (guys mostly) treated me a bit differently and I got hollered at less on the streets of Oakland. But I eventually went back – it just fits me better to be blond.

  63. #63 - ~L~ says:

I went from blonde to dark myself and I must say i love it.

  64. #64 - Michele says:

Of course, I always thought to myself how cute you are…but the brunette is even better! We must stick together! :) And, I'm really liking the rearranging…very nice and readable.

  65. #65 - Mitzi Curi says:

Cathe, I think you look fabulous either way. I'm wearing glasses almost all of the time now too. Since you asked about changes, I want to mention that I updated my blog too and have a new caricature image that I'm going to be using from now on.

  66. #66 - Deborah says:

My 28-year-old daughter is a natural light blonde and has been coloring her hair dark, dark brown for over a year now. She loves it, I love it, and she can wear colors that didn't flatter her as a blonde. After chemo last year, my naturally blonde hair has come in a nice medium brown and I'm thrilled! Women of a certain age always seem to go blonde, so I love being different. You were gorgeous as a blonde, but you have so much character and depth as a beautiful brunette. And the glasses are hip, chick.

  67. #67 - Anonymous says:

Oh, I'm so glad you explained this! I thought Sally Field hijacked your blog…Glad I don't have to be confused by that any longer.

    Susan

  68. #68 - Jennifer says:

How funny! I am actually a blonde that went brunette and am in the process of going back to blonde. I was absolutely stunned when I saw how dark my hair was after I colored it and I think I cried in the mirror every time I saw it for a month. LOL

I love your blonde hair but your brown hair also suits you very nicely! Love the specs, they are so cute!

  69. #69 - MaryLouise says:

Okay – I like “your” make-over mostly, but shorter
bangs or more face anyway will make you appear
MORE youthful…………and yes, VERY Sally Fields
    like – sweet!
