Here’s a fun and easy little before and after project! I picked up this vintage 3-tier table at my next-door neighbor’s garage sale on Saturday for $15.
I removed the legs, but kept the funky brass claw feet pieces for another project down the road.
I spray painted it with black semi-gloss paint. (Please disregard dandelions and lack of landscaping in the background.) Then I scuffed the edges a bit to give a distressed look.
Added an $11 lazy-susan mechanism.
And I now have a super cool 3-tier turn table.
I can use it in my kitchen, or pretty much anywhere, but for now it will hold some of my crafty this and thats in my studio.
I did the same thing with a 2 tier table. Did not put a turning devise on the bottom, instead put small ball feet. I use mine for the holidays. Right now it is full of gourds and bittersweet. It was such an easy project and I am crazy about the results
Fantastic! You've served up a delightful feast for the eyes on your lovely new turntable. Love your photo, looks like the gentlemen "sitting" on the shelf next to your turntable are impressed and talking about it :} ~ Angela
How clever! You are so smart! Beautyful!
.very cool..great idea also..
Awesome! I love it. A very updated look and extremely useful now. I like that with the lazy susan things in that back are accessible now.
This looks like something I could actually do! I will have to be on the lookout for a tiered table!
Very very clever. Thank you for such wonderful ideas!
Cathe – Nice. I need one of those for all my pencils, pens, supplies. Spinny things are good! Nice job.
Kick ass! Love it!
AAHHHH!! I LOVE this Cathe! I think my parents even have a table like this in their garage that has a broken leg and is just calling out to me… 🙂 You are so inspiring!

This is such a great idea. Your table looks great. I saw one of these by a dumpster one day on my way to a meeting. I was going to pick it up on my way home but of course it was gone. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for another.
This is when I wished I had a bigger scrapspace. Awesome idea. Love that it spins…Wished I would have kept my Great Aunts table now.

What a great garage sale find! I love that you made a lazy susan out of it. Oh, how I could use this piece for some great entertaining!!! I just might have to go on a garage sale hunt this weekend.
Cathe,
That is absolutely brilliant. I'm going to copy ( I hear it's the highest form of flattery!!!) your idea & use mine to display my jewelry at an upcoming show. Did you pick up your lazy susan thingy (like my technical term) at a home improvement store??
Thanks for sharing!!!
I am seriously in love with this one! I never would have thought of using a Lazy Susan underneath as the turning mechanism. Duh duh duh. This is one of those "wish I'd thought of that" occasions. Well done!
Stunning!
What a wonderful idea…just what I need for my craftroom! Now…for the hunt!
Fantastic! I had that same dang table, and gave it to my Mom! May have to steal it back! Ha!
Cathe. Brilliant. Per usual.
Now I'm regretting the one I sold!
:-/ Ah, well.
Beautiful job. I want to come play in your studio with you..
How was jury duty?
I just discovered your blog and just wanted to tell you how fantastic it is. I have been bored with the blogs I've been reading lately. Yours is just a goldmine! You give so many awesome ideas and so many freebies. That is so awesome and generous. I'm definitely hooked now! I think I could spend a day reading your archives. Your creativity rocks! Thank you, thank you!
I have been looking for one of these, and the turntable gives it the extra bit needed for sure. Thanks for the inspiration!

I just LOVE this. So, this morning, I picked one up at a yard sale to copycat your wonderful idea. May I ask what you are going to do with the feet? I'm having palpitations on cutting them off…
Thank you so much!!
Karen
Hi Karen, The feet broke when they hit the ground after sawing. I didn't particularly like their style anyway, so no real love loss. What will you do with yours?
Ha Ha HA! I am a great copier, (I do add my own flair sometimes) but first I need the inspiration from someone else!!!! I also just bought a bunch of used cake tins to copy the Pottery Barn 3-tiered galvanized tray. I guess I have a thing for 3-tiered stands, or something. :0) I'm also working on a witch's armoire or cabinet housing witch mementos from her days at Witch school. What fun! But, I have NO idea what to do with the feet on this table. The only thing that comes to me is a base for a cloche stand.
I enjoy reading your blog tremendously.
Thanks for all of the great ideas.
Karen
VERY NICE BLOG… I´m a follower now 🙂
Amazing! Your creativity inspires me.

Pamela
Love it!! My heart did skip a beat when you cut it. These tables are worth hundreds of $$$.
I have a dear friend of 28 years. I show her an up-cycle idea and she tweeks it. We go back and forth until the ideas run out. We make a great team when it comes to yard art and anything we can think of. You have great ideas thanks so much for sharing.
Beadcat
i saw this idea long ago in a magazine- and recently got a deal on an antique 3 tier just like this- plan to use it for holiday buffets- like the black distressed finish!
I truly love this idea. I am in dire need of a mega-lazy susan (craft tables) and I’m officially in love. 🙂
I love, love, LOVE this idea. It will be perfect to display!
Found you on pinterest and will become a follower. I really love this 3 tier turn table ! I can imagine this in so many different colors. i would never get it done trying to decide what color or colors to choose ! LOL Or even crackled. Anyway, I love it
I am lucky to have found your site. The first thing I looked at was the paper tape and was so impressed that I had to have a further look. The little black carousel table is awesome as is lots of other things. I have added you to my favourites list so that I can come back and have more looks. love it. Ruth
Love That idie. i need to fine a table like that.
Awesome idea! I will so use this come garage sale season…. thanks for this great idea!!!
What a great idea! I love the idea of a graduated-tier lazy susan. I have a few of the standard kitchen-department kind & I can’t get to anything that isn’t in the outside row. This is wonderful because I love estate sales and this is the kind of thing I could find at one and because it’s a DIY that I can do myself.
I love this make over project. I love it when people think outside of the box. I have to hide my rummage sale or thirft shop purchases from my husband until I have completed the make over or re-purpose project because he can not see the potential as I do. We have been married for nearly 30 years and I still amaze him. Now that I have found your blog (by accident) I may need to find new hiding places and a bigger workshop. Thank you so much for sharing.
Hello Cathe, I was just out and about in Blog land and landed on your gorgeous page. Goodness, I have seen many tiered stands but this is by far the most fab and your post is from 5 years ago!! Why haven’t I found your site before now? Lol. Just glad I know now where so many of the wonderful crafty ideas have come from 😉
Your neighbor must be kicking him/herself!
