While on vacation with my family last week, I was chatting with a woman from Louisiana on a tram out to the parking lot of the amusement park. I asked her what she thought of her visit to the park, the people and so on. She was somewhat disappointed in her experience and her reply was, “Well, this sure ain’t the South.”
That got me thinking about a decorative sign I’d seen somewhere that read, “because nice matters.” Seems a lot of folks don’t put enough effort into simply being nice to one another. This is true when out in public, and I find this a lot with my kids and their relationship to one another. Often I find it online, even in blogs. But nice really does matter.
Sometimes just a little reminder can help keep us in check. Even prompt us to go out of our way to do something especially nice for someone. I know I could use it from time to time. If you would like to have your own little reminder to place on your blog as a gadget or post to share with your readers, feel free to grab the simple graphic that I made that I’ll be keeping in my blog’s right column. You can drag off from there, or click and copy the link to the one below. You can also click on the one above if you want something to print out : ) freegadgets

So true. A smile and kind word go a long way. I try to instill in my daughter what my parents instilled in me. Do unto others. It is my favorite saying and I use it as a mantra each and every day.
I wholeheartedly agree with you! If you can’t say something nice, don’t say it! There’s too much discord in this world already!
thanks for the reminder. I’m off to post it now.
Thank you..I just added it.
I truly believe this.
I love that quote..I have seen it on some old wooden signs.

and it takes so little effort just to be pleasant, to offer a fellow traveler on this earth a little encouragement.
I love that saying…thanks for the button.
Thanks…it’s most fabulous!
Enjoy your blog and your creative genius!
Today’s blog reminds me of a quote that I used to have framed in my kid’s room:
“It’s nice to be important
But it’s more important
to be nice.”
Keep being artsy. We love it!
Excellent thought! People just don’t take the time to think about how they sound any more. Manners went out with tie dye, I think. Thanks for the button! I put it on my sidebar.
I love this! THANKS!!
Too cute! I love it!

Thanks so much Cathe, I really agree! I’ve added your cute button to my blog.
Yes! It does matter. Thank you for the highlight today. Sometimes I would even settle for “minimally pleasant” with some people.
Nice is why I read your blog and the others on my bloglist. Does anybody else immediately eliminate blogs that are crude, rude or politically unbearable? Do those people care that they lose a good number of readers?
Thank you for being nice.

It does matter! I saw a sign with this exact sentiment that I plan on painting and hanging with pride.
I feel that nice always matters!
Amen sister! NICE should count for something!

I’ve added the pic to my own blog. Thanks for the reminder. So very true to what I try to love everyday.
Hello! I was blog surfing, and came across this post, and thought it was lovely. It is so true that sometimes we need a reminder to just be nice to each other, even nice people need a reminder sometimes! Love your creativity!
So true…thanks for sharing:)
I was brought up that if you don’t have any thing nice to say then don’t say any thing at all. Thanks for posting the reminder.

I love this Amy and I consider myself a very nice person. I say mean people SUCK!
This is so true and the world would be such a better place if we all stopped to remember this not only when everything is peachy, but even when we are having a bad day or the person we are dealing with is being rude. Working in retail during the holiday seasons for a few years taught me that the person may be going through something horrible that we can’t even imagine and it doesn’t have anything to do with us. It also taught me that I can’t control other people’s attitudes and behaviors, but I can control mine. Thanks for sharing this pretty piece of blog jewelry. I am going to try to add it to my blog now.
This is the only "belief" that I have passed along to my grandchildren. Nice Matters. Thanks so much for verbalizing this in such a great way. I am thrilled to have found you out here in the big wide wonderful world of blog. Linda in New Mexico (where by the way, folks are really nice)
I agree!
Thank you!!!
I linked up!!
have a great weekend!!
=)
What did you answered after the woman says “Well, this sure ain’t the South.”?

I love all of your labels and love the fact that you share them. Thank you. BECAUSE NICE MATTERS
Reminds me of a visit to a tourist attraction in Austria. I remarked to my host that the locals were so very courteous. He just smiled and said,” They better be. you are their bread and butter.” But you need to understand this philosophy.
